Hal Moggridge Celebrations 11 September 2025
What some of our delegates have said to us about this event
Thank you for arranging this event which was such a richly deserved celebration of Hal's life and contribution.
Hal has always offered us a compass of wisdom, generosity, and diplomacy. He believed that landscapes are not only cultural treasures but also tools for reconciliation, and that diversity is a strength to be embraced. His vision, his humanity, and his courage will continue to inspire us all.
The event, led with dedication by FOLAR (Friends of the Landscape Library and Archive at Reading), brought together colleagues, friends, students, clients, and family across a full day — to honour Hal’s remarkable legacy as a designer, thinker, activist, and global leader.
It was a true pleasure to collaborate with you and the FOLAR team to connect the IFLA World Congress with the celebration in London. Creating that bridge between our two audiences was a wonderful way to collectively honour Hal's significant achievements.
It is clear that the deep admiration for Hal was felt by all, and IFLA are so proud to have formally recognised his immense contributions.
It was a wonderfully special day for all the Moggridge family and we have been reflecting on it with great pleasure and appreciation. I feel so privileged to have heard from so many of the people that my Dad worked with over the years and to find out how valued his work and character are. Over the years I've heard bits and pieces from him about jobs he's worked on, campaigns he's been involved with and people he's worked with. Hearing from his past (and current) colleagues and clients has given me so much more understanding of the varied aspects of his working life. This is such a rare and special insight to be given whilst he is alive to share and enjoy it with. I'm enormously grateful to everyone who made the event happen and to all those people who spoke so warmly about him. A momentous day that I will treasure!
Everyone I spoke to had nothing but praise for the organisation, content and venue. All in all a very joyous and memorable occasion for Hal.
The event itself became a testament to the breadth of his professional practice and the depth of his humanity.
I hope Hal enjoyed himself, he looked as if he was loving it all.
I thoroughly enjoyed the event. It was great to have an opportunity to get all our team together, and to meet past colleagues, clients and fellow professionals.

What a wonderful event! Congratulations to you and the team for organising such a great day. Really enjoyed the presentations, very inspiring.
Great to see so many industry leaders supporting the day.
I've been reflecting on the fact that Landscape Architecture is an 'invisible art' and thinking that so too is organising a special celebration day. Invisible because when all the technology works immaculately (surely rare!) the day runs smoothly, the programme is well planned and arranged, the food and drink is just right...all the attendees derive maximum benefit and pleasure from the event and think about that and not the organisation involved. No doubt, there has been a huge amount of work involved and many difficulties and stresses along the way. Thank you for all that you've done to make it such a great day.
I am so pleased that the Hal celebration was such a success on Thursday. I was more than happy to help out with the other members of the team on the day. I know how hard you all worked to bring this event about and you should all be feeling very proud.
It was a fitting tribute to Hal, proper recognition of a lifetime’s work practicing, supporting and promoting landscape architecture.
A highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of the IFLA President’s Award, bestowed in recognition of Hal’s exceptional contribution to the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA). The award was formally presented on behalf of IFLA by Martha Fajardo, IFLA Past President, who delivered a heartfelt address before handing Hal the medal, diploma, and pin. The moment was received with an ovation, reflecting the deep admiration and affection of everyone present.
